Community Guidelines
Last updated: [DATE]
Riyo connects you with real people for spontaneous conversation. That only works if people feel safe here. These guidelines explain what's expected of you and what isn't allowed — in plain language, not legal text. (For the legal version, see our Terms of Service.)
Breaking these guidelines can get your session ended, your device banned, or in serious cases, reported to law enforcement.
The short version
- You must be 18 or older. No exceptions.
- No nudity, sexual content, or sexual solicitation — including flashing someone who didn't ask for it.
- No harassment, hate speech, or threats.
- Never involve, contact, or share content involving minors, in any way. This is reported, always.
- Treat the person on the other end like a real person, because they are one.
Who can use Riyo
You must be at least 18 years old. Before you can chat we run a short age check (a selfie that estimates whether you are 18 or older), and lying about your age or using someone else's face to get around this is itself a violation — if we find out, your access is removed.
What's not okay here
Sexual content and nudity. Don't show, describe, or request nudity or sexual acts. This includes "flashing" — showing something sexual to a partner who didn't ask for or consent to seeing it. Our system scans video in real time for this and will end the call automatically if it's detected; repeated violations lead to a ban.
Anything involving minors. This is the one line we treat with zero tolerance and zero exceptions. Never attempt to contact, message, or share anything involving anyone under 18 in a sexual or exploitative way. If you see this happening, report it immediately — we investigate every report of this kind and report confirmed cases to the relevant authorities where we are able to and where the law requires.
Harassment and hate. Don't threaten, demean, or target someone based on their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age. Disagreement and blunt conversation happen — targeted cruelty doesn't get a pass.
Recording without consent. Don't screenshot, record, or save video/audio from a call, or someone's likeness, without their clear consent. What happens in a call stays between the two of you unless both people agree otherwise.
Illegal activity. No promoting or arranging drug sales, weapons sales, fraud, trafficking, or anything else illegal where you or your partner are located.
Gaming the system. Don't try to get around age verification, moderation, bans, or rate limits — including with bots, scripts, or multiple accounts, or by clearing your browser data, switching browsers, or using a VPN to come back after a ban. Don't run many windows at once to scan people, and don't share or sell your account.
Misrepresenting yourself. If you set your gender, age, or language for matching, be honest. A false age is a violation, and the details you give are only used to match you — they are never shown to your match.
Spam and solicitation. Don't use Riyo to advertise another service, business, or platform to people you're matched with.
How enforcement works
We use a mix of automated detection and human review:
- Automated video scanning samples frames from your own camera during a call and checks for nudity/explicit content in real time. A detected violation ends the call immediately and may result in an automatic ban.
- Automated text scanning checks chat messages for profanity, sexual content, and other flagged categories.
- User reports. If someone reports you, it goes into a queue our team reviews.
- Bans are tied to your device — including a technical fingerprint of your browser and device — and, where applicable, your account, not just your current session. Ending the call, rejoining, or clearing your browser data doesn't undo a ban, and trying to dodge one counts as a further violation.
We won't always be able to tell you exactly why a specific action was taken, especially where it involves an active investigation, but we take enforcement seriously in both directions: we don't want to falsely flag people either, and if you believe something was a mistake, you can reach out to [SUPPORT CONTACT EMAIL].
Bans and appeals
Most bans can be appealed. Depending on the ban, you may be able to contact [SUPPORT CONTACT EMAIL] or, where it's offered on the ban screen, pay a one-time reinstatement fee to get your device back in — available once per device. Some bans are permanent and can't be appealed or bought out, such as anything involving minors or other serious violations. If you're reinstated and break the rules again, expect a permanent ban.
Reporting someone
If something happens that shouldn't have, use the Report button during or right after your call. Tell us what happened — the more specific, the more useful it is to our review. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first; Riyo's report queue is not a substitute for that.
A note on judgment
These guidelines can't list every possible bad situation. If something feels like it's clearly against the spirit of what's written here — even if it's not spelled out word-for-word — treat it as covered. We'd rather you err on the side of reporting something than let it slide.
